The School Board works with the school community to achieve the best outcomes for students. It is formed with the fundamental purpose of enabling parents and members of the community to engage in activities that are in the best interests of students and will enhance the education provided by the school.
The School Board:
- Establishes and reviews the school’s objectives priorities and general policy directions
- Formulates Codes of Conduct for students at the school
- Liaises with other groups and committees associated with the school (e.g. the P&C)
- Holds an annual meeting that any member of the public can attend and submits an annual report to inform the school community of its performance
- Holds at least one meeting per term which is generally open to the public
The School Board does not:
- Manage the day to day running of the school (e.g. staff management and class assignments)
- Discuss individual issues relating to teachers, staff, students or parents
- Represent specific interest groups, or permit special interest groups to dominate the agenda of the Board
- Intervene in the management of the school or educational instruction of students
- Borrow money, obtain funds or purchase property
- Exercise authority or performance manage any Department of Education employee
