Learning - Music

                                                                                                               MUSIC -

At Spring Hill Primary School we have a passion for “The Arts”.  We strive to develop a program that encompasses all aspects of Music, Dance and Drama.  Our aim is to enable students to reach their potential by engaging them, inspiring them and enriching them in a creative environment.

In Music, students have access to skills, knowledge and understanding of aural and theory skills, rhythm, tempo, pitch, dynamics, form, timbre and texture.  Through these elements, students develop aural, written and performance skills in both making and responding.  They learn about music appreciation and develop skills in composition and performance.  We teach the students keyboard as well as tuned and untuned percussion.

In Drama, students create, rehearse, perform and respond using the elements of role and character, relationships, situation, voice, movement, focus, tension, space, time, language, audience, mood and atmosphere.  They are encouraged to use their imagination and creativity to present pieces of work to others by taking on roles that depict real and imagined worlds.

In Dance, students are taught about the elements of body, energy, space and time.  They use these skills to follow and create their own choreography through movement.

We pride ourselves on excellence in the arts and therefore deliver programs that enable this.  Students in Years 5 and 6 are given the  opportunity to take part in an extension program which involves AMEB theory and practical skills.  The program also consists of music appreciation, music notation and editing skills as well as composition and performance.

The Drumbeat program is also offered and is currently in progress with the Year 4 cohort.  This is a social and behavioural program that  assists students in communication, relationships and promoting a healthy self-esteem.  It is a positive and encouraging program that delivers great results.

We take part in the SIMS program at Spring Hill Primary and we currently have teachers available for flute and guitar lessons for year 5 and 6 students.

We currently run a choir consisting of approximately 90 students from years 3-6 and rehearse weekly with a range of repertoire.

At Spring Hill we understand the necessity to engage students creatively and provide many opportunities for them to perform.  These performances are our End of Year Concerts comprising of music, dance and drama, Spring Hill’s Got Talent, One Big Voice festival, Music Count Us In, Assembly performances and special occasion performances.  The performances range from singing, acting, dancing, speaking and  the playing of instruments.

The Arts provide students with the ability to express themselves in a creative way.  It enables them to not only study and learn about the arts but to develop a real passion that they can identify with and share with others.
